What is that feeling in your chest?

When you meet that special person who just simply sweeps you off your feet and you experience fluttering in your chest or palpitations … Enjoy the experience. Life does tend to throw up its challenges and fluttering in the chest palpitations can quite often occur, particularly if you’re becoming concerned about something.  We all tend to take our stress levels to the wire … No wonder we experience fluttering in chest palpitations. But in some cases fluttering in chest type palpitations can be more severe and if left unexplained can create further anxiety, increase the stress levels and therefore it would be better to consult your doctor for advice.

Whilst rapid, irregular heartbeats are more common in the elderly and in those people who have an overactive thyroid gland, and are not usually life threatening, by a simple consultation with a doctor could prevent deteriorating heart function.

It is also possible that fluttering in chest palpitations are more serious and could be the onset of arrhythmia which is best treated by your doctor, and can be easily identified by you having an electrocardiogram (ECG), an electrical recording of the heart which is conducted by placing small round disks on the chest attached to a monitor, which records the heart’s activity.

It’s true to say that most people can easily avoid the onset of heart disease by doing whatever you can to keep yourself healthy, and stopping smoking and reducing your alcohol intake has to be high on the list of avoidance.  Smoking definitely increases the heart rate, and it will be no shock to most of us that alcohol dulls down the nervous system.

Eating a more healthy, low fat, high fiber, diet and taking regular suitable exercise, will, in most cases, achieve excellent results and can lead to a greatly improved lifestyle, and by avoiding over-indulging yourself with coffee and by avoiding medicines and stimulants that may cause fluttering in chest type palpitations can also have huge benefits.

Fluttering in chest palpitations, whilst common and not usually serious or harmful, can cause a lot of concern and the onset of strong emotions or too much physical exercise, medicines, stimulants and some medical conditions whilst harmless, may add to these concerns unnecessarily.

It’s also quite possible that the cause of fluttering in chest palpitations cannot be identified, so if you find that you have these and you find yourself feeling dizzy or confused, light headed to the point of passing out, or if you have any trouble breathing or you are experiencing pain, pressure or tightening of the chest area, jaw or arms, or even if you are experiencing unusually high sweating … Don’t put it off any longer, immediately consult your doctor and get yourself checked out!
